Des Plaines River Trail...northbound...does anyone know when it converts from dirt to blacktop/paved?

Also, am looking for a good spot to park and enter the trail. I have two young kids so surface street riding to the trail (from Lakeview) is not an option. I can drive north or straight out Irving Park...but will need to find a good spot to leave the car and rack.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Michael.

Was it muddy or pretty dry?

I believe the only paved section is from Algonquin to Rand, about one mile or so. Otherwise mix of dirt and crushed limestone but like Michael said it's rideable. There are plenty of forest preserves along Cumberland and River Rd at which to park n' ride. Just check Google maps for most convenient for you. Also, fwiw, the trail is a bit nicer north of Lake-Cook Rd but that's a drive to get up there. Not as nice around Dundee as it can be muddy.

Rich, this is helpful. Thanks.

You'd be better off riding the Skokie or McClory trails. They're all paved.
