Cyclists needed for Bill Signing in Arlington Hgts Monday 7/5

Spreading the word on behalf of League of Illinois Bicyclists:

===
We just received late notice that Gov. Quinn would like to have a bill signing ceremony for two bike-related bills THIS MONDAY at Campbell Street Bicycle Shop, 13 W. Campbell St., downtown Arlington Heights, at 9:00am.  We need a bunch of bicyclists to attend!  If your schedule permits, please drop by - and let us know via email at
lib@bikelib.org
so we can ensure good attendance and let you know of any changes to the schedule.

He will sign the following into law:

1) LIB's bill creating permanent Share the Road license plates for Illinois.  Plate income would sustainably fund our statewide education campaigns for both motorists and bicyclists.  The plate design itself delivers the message, with a Share the Road sign and the phrase "Same Rights, Same Rules".

2) Sen. Silverstein's bill establishing penalties for motorists driving recklessly and unnecessarily close to, toward, or near a bicyclist.  Depending on whether serious injuries result, this will be either a Class A misdemeanor or Class 4 felony.

Thank you!

Yeah . . . Quinn has long been known for knowing how to get media coverage and I'm guessing the early morning time is aimed at having less competition.

Thanks for posting this..

I read it somewhere else, but didn't think to post it for some reason.. I love that shop, the owner Peter, along with the wifey and kids are always awesome and totally nice folks. I will try to make it, but damn is that early..

For anyone who does show up, the Frontier Days Parade is that morning too @ 10:00, which has a section for decorated bikes(you do not need to register), and also the AHBA has a spot in the parade route. If I make it, depending on where they put the decorated bikes this year, I am gonna see if the club will let those folks ride with them too this year. Last year we had a problem being jammed between a semi truck and some car club(?) which kept squeezing us in making it impossible to actually ride our bikes.

The parade jumps off @ Dunton and Oakton, a handful of blocks from Campbell Street Bikes..
9:00 early? Hell, by 9:00, the day's half over!

See ya'll there.

Good luck with that.
I support Quinn 150% but I've not been able to get a response per e-mail or phone despite multiple attempts to offer to volunteer for the campaign.

BTW Glad you saw this thread-- otherwise was planning to message you before Monday.
Can't remember if Lowell is on c'link-- I'll forward one of the e-mails to him.

Well, he is scheduled to be in the Des Plaines parade as well, but I don't know if that is on the same day or not, but I assume so. If not, maybe we can get him into our parade after the bill signing..
If I can get myself out of bed I'll be there.
They just mentioned it on WBEZ. See you all there!

Thank god everyone pictured is wearing normal clothing--if only we could get Ed to join the ranks of 21st century bike advocates.

Good job to those who went.

Ed was wearing a button-down shirt; he's holding a jersey in the pic. Not sure which you'd prefer he'd be wearing.

Very nice! I would have liked to have stayed, but since it's a workday, I didn't want to wait around for the 11:30 train (and, surprisingly enough, I got on the 9:30 train).

I'd have been back if the train said no.
Video removed for being too long per Youtube :-(
I've been pretty happy with http://blip.tv for a few years.
