Hi community!
I want to bike from the North Center neighborhood to Orland Park, but am unfamiliar with that area and unsure of a safe route. I know there is not a designated bike path to Oak Park, but I wonder if there is a safe, scenic and spacious route to my destination.
North Ave > 1st Ave > La Grange Rd has been recommended to me, but by a non-cyclist resident of Oak Park. Google Satellite shows me some questionable highway areas along this route, but I might be able to handle short stints of it.
Does anyone have any insight? Thank you!

I have—Google's bike route would guide me through some sketchy areas. Thanks for your help!
That stinks. Glad Jared was able to provide a good route for you. Have a good ride!
"North Ave > 1st Ave > La Grange Rd" lol, only if you want to die.
Basically, you need to get to Willow Springs Rd one way or other, then take that into Orland Park. Its the only decent crossing for bikes over the Des Plaines/I&M in that area. Jared's route is good. Otherwise, you would have to ride south through the entire length of Chicago, then cut west.
I'll take your advice—Jared's route it is. Thank you!
I think Kedzie/Kimball may be better than California - a bit less traffic, plus Kedzie goes further north. Also, I'd avoid the car sewers of Chicago and Sacramento.
You are right that East Ave in Oak Park is better than Oak Park Avenue. But I think there are better routes through the western 'burbs than Riverside/Longcommon/Washington/Harding.
