The Chainlink

Chainlink's Photographer, Ronit Has a Documentary Airing on PBS May 26, 8 pm

I was lucky to see the film last year at Gene Siskel Theater and I highly recommend it.

About Ronit Bezalel's documentary:

Nominated for a Black Excellence Award, 70 ACRES IN CHICAGO: CABRINI GREEN is a new documentary that explores the effects of Chicago’s 1.5 billion dollar Plan for Transformation, an edict requiring the demolition of the city’s public housing high rises and the building of replacement mixed-income condominiums. The impact this urban experiment has on the lives of Cabrini Green residents and that of the new urban settlers creates a compelling personal and political drama. Located on some of Chicago’s most valuable real estate, the film asks, “Who has a right to live in the city?”

70 Acres in Chicago: Cabrini Green will receive its television premiere on WTTW11 on Thursday, May 26 at 8:00 pm, and will repeat on Saturday, May 28 at 11:00 pm. There will also be an airing on WTTW’s Prime channel, 11.2, on Friday, May 27 at 2:00 pm.

70 Acres in Chicago had its sold-out World Premiere in August 2015 at the Black Harvest Film Festival, where it was an audience favorite. Additional screenings were added, which also sold out. The film then was brought back for two theatrical runs at the Gene Siskel Film Center, which sold out again. Now, Chicagoans will have the opportunity to see this film in their homes.

70 Acres in Chicago is a sequel to Bezalel's critically acclaimed Voices of Cabrini: Remaking Chicago's Public Housing (1999), a documentary chronicling the initial redevelopment of Cabrini Green from the perspective of residents, community activists, and local business owners. Voices of Cabrini was described by Newsweek as a "touchstone in the debate over public housing." Chicago film veteran Judy Hoffman is the Executive Producer of both documentaries.
