I'm itching to do a long ride and was hoping there would be a Frozen Snot Century in 2013. I missed last years ride. They're usually in March, correct? Where is the route typically? Any other supported lengthy rides any time in the next three or four months?

Last year it was done around St. Patrick's Day in March and was 80 degrees both days.  Went from Harvard, Illinois to Madison and back the next day.  John Greenfield led the ride but I was under the impression he wasn't going to lead it this year.  I think every other year it was Chicago to Milwaukee.

I can't seem to find a date either, but it's never occurred to me to blame Greenfield for that...

it's also not "supported"

I have every reason to believe David will do an excellent job organizing this year's ride.

Unsupported rides are the best kind of rides. And, as much as I loved riding to Milwaukee on a separate ride last year, the Frozen (Molten) Snot to Madison was a ton of fun. Something about the SW WI rolling hills makes for some pretty awesome riding.

I'm sure someone still has the route saved electronically. I still have my cue sheet if you're super curious to see.

ok, let's do this!  Traditionally it's been a February ride--last year we bumped it back to March and went to Madison instead of Milwauke, and we had 80 degrees.  This year we should get it while it's still cold and then maybe go to Madison in March or April on a different ride.

It's been John Greenfield's ride for years, but he's stepped out of this one as well as the Perimeter Ride to work on new rides and his new job for StreetsBlog Chicago--Whooooo!  http://chi.streetsblog.org/

So, there are a couple of ways to slice this fish--it's about a 90 mile ride from here to Milwaukee, so that'd be a two-day ride with a sleepover up there.  Alternately, there's the Metra Assist One Day Plan where we get off at Kenosha and ride there and back in a single day.

Whooooooo!  Ice bears for all my pals!

Your Metra assisted plan sounds pretty awesome. It sure would cut out some complexities with finding lodging in MKE.

I'll be there!

David, did you get the e-mail from Aaron of Bike Winter Madison? He's hoping to coordinate.

Would suggest not March 9th weekend as that's the Chicago Cycle Swap.

No, I didn't get the email--hook us up and we'll figure it out for sure. I'm at david606xx at gmail.

Last year's ride to Madison was fantastic, but I'm a little worried about that route in snowy conditions assuming we can get this going for February.

Fantastic!

Oops-- you weren't copied-- just forwarded.

I hope this will be the year I finally do it; it's always seemed like a lot of fun but there was always some reason or another why I didn't or couldn't.
