Does the bail amount of 75k mean that that's what needs to be put up to get him out? Or is it some percentage of that?
In other words nobody was willing to do that for him?
(I know blessedly little about some aspects of the legal/penal system...)

It's a sad chapter in a sad existence. When he gets out he's going to figure out how to run a bike theft ring without personal exposure.

10% is usually the amount that needs to be posted to "bond out." I suspect that the case against him is sufficiently strong that his lawyer is waiting until the date that he can plead his client to "time served;" i.e. in exchange for a plea of guilty, he is sentenced to 2 years and two months, and he is released because he has already served two years and two months.

Thanks. He only needs to put up $7500? Even so, I don't understand why he'd follow advice to stay put.
Are conditions in the holding pens better in some way than in "real" jail?
