Hi guys, newbie question on bike rack selection. I'm going to start commute to work by bike. Any thoughts on a bike rack that's not going to break my wallet? I'm looking at Topeak explorer bike rack from amazon (seems like one of the most popular choice on the site), also maybe a beam rack with quick release.

I'm thinking of getting a quick release beam rack that allow me to remove the rack easily if I'm not commuting to work. But the reviews on some of the beam racks I saw are mix. Summary is that it might not be as sturdy, and might break at the welding point.

What do you think? Thanks!

*It's for a road bike.

Does your road bike have eyeletsat the rear-dropouts? In that case I suggestthe cheapo ones at Performance. If you can wait for a good sale, you can get them for $20 or less. Unless you plan to install a rearlight on the rack, which cannot be done easily on the Performance
The quick release racks are OK for light loads, but if you bring a lot of stuff to work, like your laptop, clothing, lunch, etc. I would advise against it
It does. I guess I'll stick with the regular rack instead of a fancy quick release. Thanks!
Thanks Jeff. But wow! That's probably four times my budget for the rack...
