The Chainlink

We hope you can join us! We've moved the date (Sunday, August 29) to avoid conflicting with the North Shore Century. We're moving the start/finish to the West Loop (Morgan and Taylor).

Because of all that, we've got three cool new routes for all types of riders:
  • 15-mile Neighborhood Ramble - great for families and casual riders
  • 32-mile Boulevard Tour - our famous tour with a few twists
  • 62-mile Ultimate Neighborhood Tour - designed by our friends the Chicago Cycling Club
The post-ride festival rocks with music and Goose Island beer...you can't go wrong.

Chainlinkers can save $5 registering online with coupon code: CHAINLINK5

Plus, sign up by this Sunday and save an additional $3.

Good turnout? Happy riders?

I was under the impression the route wasn't coming anywhere near my neighborhood this year so was surprised to see a lot of bikes going down Rockwell when I walked out the door this morning.
For those who did the ride-- my street is about a block before the corner with the motorcycle bar and the guy waving the baseball bat around . . .

Everyone I talked to seemed to be enjoying themselves. Was surprised to see someone I chatted with as I was heading out the door riding through the west Fulton district what seemed like many many hours later, still on the ride.
I'd like to extend a big THANK YOU to all the great volunteers and to all the riders who made today's BLT a fun day. Having good volunteer help for route marking makes the difference between a bad ride and a great one. You guys rocked! Good rest stop and course marshal help made a big difference, too. Three cheers for all the great volunteers!

I had a lot of positive conversations with riders and ride marshals who came through the Riverside rest stop. If you came through Riverside, I hope that it was an enjoyable ride for you.

A number of Riverside residents said they were very happy that we came to their town. Some of them relaxed in their lawn chairs to enjoy the parade of cyclists.
We had a glorious BLT ride today. Five of us did 62 miles and really enjoyed it. What a great tour of Chicago. Two of my riding companions had never been to Ping Tom park before, so that was our favorite stop, but Ann you did a great job at the Riverside stop.
And Howard, you have some very interesting neighbors. That motorcycle bar group cracked us up.
Thanks to Active Trans for another fantastic ride!
Ethan, you guys did a fantastic job today! Great route, great volunteers! Ending at UIC was wonderful, too! Have been a Sarah & the Tall Boys fan from Honky Tonk BBQ for ages! Dellicious food from Goose Island, too!
Looking forward to more rides and the 2011 BLT!

Sweet, Bart...hope you have a great ride and meet some Pilsen folks. Please let us know how it goes!

Thanks,
Ethan, with Active Trans
They are by far not my most interesting neighbors (unfortunately.)
Typically the place is closed and quiet, but it comes to life once very month or two when there's some event in town (e.g. a parade.)

Thank you for the compliment and thank you for riding! I'm glad to hear that you had such a good ride.

Hey all, we posted a "BLT thank you" discussion here:

http://www.thechainlink.org/forum/topics/blt-thank-you

But, it appears that the shout outs are happening in this discussion...so, here's a copy/paste:

Thanks to everyone who came out and rode one of our three Boulevard Lakefront Tour routes yesterday...we hope you enjoyed your ride and were able to stay hydrated!

Also, special thanks to everyone who volunteered...we couldn't have done it without you!

And an extra special thanks to the amazing Chicago Cycling Club for partnering with us again...your club is a wonderful part of Chicago and the Boulevard Lakefront Tour!

Sincerely,

All of us at Active Trans
We had nearly 500 riders on the 62 mile route. :)

BTW, Anne, how many 62-milers did you count? Just curious . . .

Lots of happy riders. I left you a message earlier in the week saying that I was marking in your 'hood, but I guess you didn't get the message. We used a different route marking scheme this year, so you might not have recognized the markings.

I sure enjoyed this ride. We covered alot of ground(we did the 32 mile). Being from out of town, I was at times not sure what area we were in. My wife blew a tire and tube, so our ride was cut short at around 26 miles. It was a great weekend of riding with BLT and CCM!
Neighborhood info is in the ride guide, along with notes about points of interest along the way. Sorry to hear that your ride was cut short.

Thanks Anne. I have to remember in order to read those maps now I have to bring reading glasses on my ride! It was the same in CCM Friday night. I recognized some area's, but others I was not sure where we were. I was glad we ended on The Lakefront Trail, so getting downtown was easy.
