Anyone familiar with Wrightwood going east from Narragansett to California?

Hello,

I am getting ready for a new work commute, and I'm very curious about Wrightwood between Narragansett and California.  I will probably take bigger streets to go west (maybe eventually I'll figure out a side street route), but Wrightwood will take me most of the way home which would be great.  At this point I'm not familiar enough with the area to know if there are any safety concerns, especially when I start going home in the dark.  I've done it in the day time and it seemed fine.

I can always take Diversey, but I prefer smaller streets when they're an option.  What do folks who are more familiar with Wrightwood/Logan between Narragansett and California think about it as a regular route?

  This won't answer your question, I take Roscoe, corneilia, Bryon regularly going east on my way home at midnight, it won't go thru to California as the Xpress way or railroad blocks it. I only been on Wrightwood in the day and it looks alright. In a couple weeks, I'll be doing Lee Diamond's ride of Cragin and Hermosa starting at Kelvyn Park at about 4400 wrightwood, will then get a better look at the neigborhood.

I often use Wrightwood to get out west on weekends.  All the neighborhoods it goes through are pretty safe.

I've taken it during several evenings between Naragansett and Long, and that section has always been quiet.

I've used that stretch of Wrightwood many times. It's almost all residential, with some industrial/commercial sections west of Cicero. It takes a slight dogleg at Cicero, but that's not bad to navigate. Several years ago, a lot of speed humps were added. I think those were all east of Cicero. Lots of stop signs but not much cross traffic at the majority of the residential intersections. I've generally found it a pleasant route.

I've ridden that section several times as late as 2am. I've never had a problem and never felt threatened in any way. I think most of the residents are used to seeing cyclists on this route.  I wouldn't hesitate to ride it during normal hours.

Many thanks for the responses.  It looked okay to me, but it's good to know that from folks who've used that route more.  The Cicero jog is the main obstacle going west, but if I'm doing it every day, I may just figure out how to get through it as I nail down my commuting routes.  Forgot about Roscoe as a decent east option.  That'll be good to remember as an alternate.

George which is one block north of Diversey is another great east bound street but only goes as far as Cicero.
