Julie's suggestion is a good one. And you probably need a new folding pedal. I'd suggest mentioning that when you call Adam.
Actually, I hate the folding pedal. It doesn't save that much space. I think I just need the bolt. I sent a friend request to PttP.
It sure seems like a weak point. I'd hate it too if it failed on my like that. That kind of failure can be pretty dangerous. Glad to hear that you handled it well!

It happened at the best possible point: 7:30 on the just north of ELT on campus. But yeah I hope to replace it with a normal pedal.
Do you need to regularly fold the bike? Replacing with a non-folding pedal may affect your ability to fully fold the bike.

I you're in Evanston, either Ten27 Cycles on Davis near Maple or the Pony Shop on Chicago near Dempster might be able to put on a cheap pedal to get you home.
My Dahon Mu came with MKS quick release pedals, which I like a lot. I just pop them off when I fold the bike and toss them in my bag. Not only is the bike 4 or 5 inches narrower without the pedals on, but they don't get tangled up in the folded handlebar.

I've heard good things about those pedals previously. Perhaps I'll give those a try when I need to replace the folding pedals on my Dahon. Thanks for posting the info here.

MKS makes NICE pedals. This particular QR pedal can be found on Amazon if you don't want to get gouged by PayBay.
