I've been close to installing my window units several times now, but then we cool off and things are reasonably bearable again with windows and a box fan.  Looks like we're supposed to get back down into the 70s in a few days . . .

Who all's getting by without AC, and who plans to do so through the summer?

This was exactly the wrong thing to do!  You put the air conditioner in the window when you want to make sure that it will not get warm enough to need an air conditioner.  What you should be doing now is buying a very heavy winter coat, window insulation, salt, sand, a snow blower, and three or four shovels.  THAT should stop the cold and snow.

I caved and put mine in yesterday. The wife tried to convince me otherwise with her "logic", and "have you been outside lately?" arguments. She even said that others would consider me a "dumb-ass".

If that's what they call folks that are ready for the summer to arrive, so be it.

In Omnia Paratus

So that's where all this snow is coming from. Condensation from really inconsiderate people running their air conditioners at full blast.

This year's been pretty tolerable, terrible humidity aside. Stay strong! July is but a week away, and you can then gloat that you made it to July w/o AC.

We've had the bedroom/home office units going (little 5200 btu units), but I haven't installed the much larger kitchen/dining room/living room unit this season. Of course, installing a ceiling fan in the dining room may have contributed towards that.

I seriously thought about turning the heat on the other night. So far not the slightest urge to run the ac though.

Moisture would be the only issue and it has not been a problem yet this year.

With the coming 20% increase of ComEd charges, I'm putting off the AC and saving my pennies. My usual goal is to try and make it past the 4th of July holiday weekend before putting in the window unit. Fans! Box fans. Circulating fans. I'm gonna tough it out if I can!

I've not started it yet. Our condo stays cool I guess. Also I think you can learn to live without AC..most of the world does!

Not yet.  Its heavy and in the basement and each time it warms up it cools down a few days later.

We recently bought a single family home. The first time we own a place with Central Air. Wow! There clearly is no going back now. :)

You got only a 20% increase?

Heh, I just paid my June electric bill and it was just a little more than 110% increase over my May electric bill for the cost per KWH. It seems after I compared my electric bill with my immediate neighbors electric bills that the less KWH you use the more they charge you per KWH. For example one neighbor used about 50% more than I used and her billing was closer to 46% more this month per KWH. Big penalty for conserving electricty. I put in my two 13.5 K BTU window AC and been running about 10 hours daily. With large windows facing south its been uncomfortably warm. My North side space with windows facing north has keep nicely cool to date.

ceiling fans are the eighth wonder of the modern world; but I, also; live in a garden-unit apartment and the ceilings are too low for the fans. Next apartment!

We've run the A/C a few days so far, but it's mostly been fans and open windows. We've already had 90 degree days. Many of my friends on the north side (within a few miles of the lake) haven't.
