The Chainlink

On Monday, June 27th a Black Honda Cross tour plate #Z73 5974 hassling and threatening four cyclist on Otis Rd, Barrington, IL 60010, just East of Hills and Dales Road. Driver was aggressive, violated the three foot law and brake checked the lead rider.

He set behind for a few seconds then started to come around, came very close to one rider and slowed, than rode along side the lead rider and started to hassle him. The lead rider thinks he claimed to be a Trustee (or something like that). The driver claimed we were need to be riding single file (which we were) and that the three foot law does not apply to Barrington.

Here are the front and rear bike camera views.

Oh wow, glad you have footage.  What kind of cameras is it from?

FLY 6 in back and FLY 12 in front.

Yup! The three feet law DOES apply in Barrington. Or are they 'special' and seceded from the State of Illinois?

(PDF) http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com says,
" Illinois motorists are required to allow at least three feet of space between them and a cyclist."

So, are you going to turn this over to BPD? Seems pretty clear the driver needs a "talking-to".

Or better yet, any of you have a CarFax account? Run the plate and let's public shame this person.

Effing great... i ride that road fairly often. Now i'll really keep an eye out for this guy. i hope you did turn a copy and a report in to the Barrington PD!

In the video I hear a voice that says, "not on this road!" Is that the driver's voice yelling at the riders?

Okay, to be fair, it does look like the camera bike was riding a bit wide of the verge. i understand that the rider has just passed another bike, but IMHO, he might have gotten a bit more over to the right after the pass. Maybe that perception has to do with the camera's optics and perspective, but it looks like he had about another foot or so to move over.

And what's with the strobing tail lights on that Honda? Was that a police car?

mike w. asked, "Was that a police car?"

No a it was a "Village Trustee Patrol Car."
