Active Trans Outlines Plans for "8-to-80 Bikeways in the ‘Burbs"

There are some promising plans for city to suburban bike planning including:

Stronger policies and plans

Trail Extensions

New bike lanes

Local organizing

Trail groundbreaking

I used to bike-train commute to Mount Prospect and in the summer, when biking became more popular, cyclists regularly were unable to get on the city-bound trains after work. Sometimes it was a capacity issue, sometimes it was a conservative conductor but either way, it posed a challenge - needing to ride back into the city. Most of the ride was great but there are a few spots that are just horrible to ride on. There was a disconnect at points where you were stuck riding on a high-speed road with semi trucks e.g. sections of Northwest Hwy and Rand Road. I hope this plan does just that - connects the dots so that cyclists don't have to experience the dangers of a disconnected route when they ride to and from the city.
