Does anyone else have some sort of ID or distinctive marking on their bike in case it is ever stolen?

I am confused here.
1. Did the thief steal a stolen bike?
or
2. Was the bike thief stolen?
You went to all the trouble of revising your title and forgot to spell THIEF correctly.

Was it a cheese or sausage pizza?
It is what you eat in someone's home, that you have broken into, before you steal their bike and other possessions.

A common trick is to put a business card in the bottom bracket shell - the least likely place for the average joe to look for ID, but one place a mechanic will find your ID.

Great job by Kozy's to immediately contact the Bike Lane to check with them. Most of these LBS look out for us more than we give them credit for.
Yeah, cause it's entirely too difficult and time-consuming to write down your serial number...
