PEDESTRIAN & TRAFFIC SAFETY

▢  2. Improvements at busy and dangerous intersections ($258,000)

  • Neighborhood greenway on Wellington from Kedzie to Kimball (This stretch of Wellington is very residential with children walking to the park and Avondale-Logandale School, however drivers speed on this very residential stretch. This project will create a residential street with low speeds and low traffic volume, where people walking and biking are given priority)

  • Pedestrian refuge island to cross Kimball at Wellington (Crossing Kimball at Wellington is very dangerous, particularly for the children that attend Avondale-Logandale School. Stop for pedestrians signs were recently erected at this site but are often ignore. This pedestrian refuge island will make it easier and safer for our kids to cross this street)

  • Left-turn arrow installation at Milwaukee and Kimball (Dangerous intersection improve pedestrian and traffic safety, 2 signals)

  • Pedestrian countdown for Fullerton at Central Park (By Tony’s Finer Foods, extremely busy, would greatly enhance pedestrian and traffic safety)

▢  3. Protected bike lanes ($375,000)

[1.5 miles, the below stretches have no shoulder room for bikes, especially dangerous along the underpasses and overpasses by Expressway and Metra trains)

  • Belmont from Kedzie to Central Park (Creating safer biking experience and pedestrian connections across the ward)

  • Addison from Kedzie to Central Park (Creating safer biking experience and pedestrian connections across the ward)

  • Kimball from Addison to Belmont (Creating safer biking experience and pedestrian connections across the ward)
