Boots either way, steel or not can be an issue.. I have it during the winter with my boots.. My problem with clips mainly is my shoe size, being 14 or 15 depending on brand.. Pedal size helps too, bigger platforms better then smaller.. I merely suggested cause I see you riding a SS/Fixed, and while fixed should always have clips, SS should for things like rain from my experience of not having them. It's way to easy to slip off the pedals.
