Description

The winners are in! The first Bike Winter/Big Shoulders Realty winter tour will be Andersonville and Uptown. Uptown, Chicago Community Area #5 sits 6 miles directly north of the Loop. Uptown can boast of a rich history that is equal parts ritzy and ragged. The community has thrived during the glory of the jazz age and suffered mightily during the Great Depression. Uptown was once the hub of the early American Movie industry. It’s ornate theaters, grand ballrooms, nightclubs, apartment buildings, mansions and central commercial district are amongst the finest architectural masterpieces in the city. Formerly part of Uptown, Andersonville is now part of Edgewater, which became its own Community Area (#77) in 1980. This neighborhood has been a thriving residential community since the mid-19th century, and is well known today for its amazing housing stock, independently owned businesses and a very comfortable, walkable neighborhood in the heart of north side. Get on your woolies and gators and join us for a wonderful winter ride through the northside.

Charlies in my opinion is kinda a sports bar...My vote is still for Konaks (never crowded, good homemade pizza and hummus) or Fireside (yummy food as well). But no one has died and made me president yet so I won't put up too much of a fight if we go to Charlies.....

Garth suggests Charlie's Ale House, which while corporate-faux-Irish, has LOADS of space so they would be able to accomodate us regardless...thoughts?

Surveying the options:

Konak's - the tables look mildly plentiful, but very spread out from each other. It does seem like they have the space, but it is hard to tell how it is. I trust Julie who lives around there that this place might work. I have been to T's, but years and years ago. Carol's is no good if it has no food. Hamburger Mary's is too crowded and wouldn't be good if we had more than 6 people. Andie's is good, but too pricey and sit-down dinnery as opposed to bar-food for reasonable dollars.

Someone else mentioned Carol's. Any idea how that is? Other ideas?

Tony is looking into Fireside, but my sense is that they are not the kind of place that we can walk in with a half-dozen or 3 dozen, which is what we need. The most we have ever had join us after a ride is about 40 and the least is about 4.

Konak, or Fireside would be your best bet.

I'll be there for at least half of it, and then I'll have to split for a prior engagement.

carols doesn't have food. for sure Konaks will have space. T's maybe. Simons is small and i don't think it has food either.

Carol's? The country western bar?

Hopleaf is ALWAYS crowded but on a Saturday at 5ish, it will be ridiculous. How much space is there at Konaks, Charlie's and T's if we show up without calling after the ride? Tony Buddah was voting for Fireside. Iggi mentioned Carol's....any other ideas?

i vote hopleaf...if its too crowded (which it will be) then we can hop next door to Konaks for pool and pizza. There is Charlies and T's as well.
