OK, not everyone loves Three Floyds. Different spokes for different folks! Now you have the option of going to Flossmoor Station instead. (It remains an option to go to Flossmoor Station in addition.)
We depart Daley Plaza at 9:00 AM and collect riders at Promontory Point at 9:45 AM. We stay together (more or less) down to I-80, then split up into Three Floyds and Flossmoor Station groups. The goal of the Three Floyds group is to get to Three Floyds by noon, when they open, and not have to wait outside.
Neither snow nor rain nor sleet nor gloom of night stays these couriers (and other riders) from the swift completion of their appointed rounds of beer. Depending on the weather, however, returning from Flossmoor Station via Metra can be a very attractive option. Total distance: Three Floyds round trip 60 miles, Three Floyds and Flossmoor Station one-way 40 miles, Flossmoor Station one-way 35 miles.
We ask that you RSVP if attending.
The fine print:
There is no support vehicle. You are responsible for yourself. The pace is 12-16 mph with a short break at 7-Eleven. Mid-January weather can be extreme. Be prepared for cold as well as flats/mechanical problems.
Checklist:
▢ Growler
▢ Water and snacks
▢ Lights
▢ Lock
▢ Pump, tube, tools
▢ Extra layers of clothing (more than you expect to wear)
▢ Money
Online resources: Google map, cue sheet, Metra schedule, and Metra rules.
The inaugural Three Floyds ride was conceived and organized by Mark Sinclair and took place on January 14, 2006. As many of you know, Mark died on April 14 of that year, at age 34, a few days after suffering a brain aneurysm. It was Mark's hope that it would become an annual event.
Thanks,
Bob and Kevin
PS: Riding with the Three Floyds group doubles as the First Step of the 2014 Twelve Steps Challenge. Make it every month and win a nifty prize!

got it. major roads will have more traffic, but they're more likely to be plowed. it's a trade-off.
close, i was thinking like at the Website or Map link above. just stay on ewing, to ave o, then to wentworth. is there a reason you prefer your way?
they're now saying 38°, might feel tropical. still, my guess is there won't have been enough time for the snow on the Burnham Greenway to have melted (or been washed away by rain), so i'm anticipating staying on roads after 71st. and we won't get on the Lakefront Trail before hyde park, because of the Polar Dash. don't know about the LFT between hyde park and 71st.
Cloudy with rain and snow showers in the morning, light snow for the afternoon. Temps nearly steady in the mid to upper 30s. Winds WSW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of precip 50%. |
4:10 train should get you to Millennium Station at 4:58, easy peasy
Looking forward to it. The National Weather Service is only calling for a 20% chance. It would be great if we could be back in the city by 5.
envane, me, too. can't stay too late at FS this year.
Got to be somewhere that evening, unfortunately
Blowing Snow right now, but i think it's finally time to update my phone, so i might ride to the store later. maybe the lines will be shorter than usual. and Pollen is only 0.1 out of 12.
My focus is looking beyond Tuesday.
