Saturday, January 11, 2014 marks the 2nd Annual Heels on Wheels Fashion Show—a bicycle fashion show that promotes stylish riding no matter what type of rider you are or what your budget is. The fashion show is organized and run by Girls Bike Club, an after school program offered by West Town Bikes, that creates a positive and supportive social atmosphere for the participants to explore cycling, fashion, professional development and youth voice.
Heels on Wheels uses youth from the programs at West Town Bikes to plan, organize, promote and execute the event. From picking the venue, to designing the outfits, to modeling during the show, Heels on Wheels is youth-led and facilitated.
Hosted at Greater Good Studio, 2864 N Milwaukee Ave. 7-10pm. Purchase tickets online, or at West Town Bikes/Ciclo Urbano, $10 for adults, $5 for students with school ID. Tickets are limited so buy yours soon, tickets at the door may not be available! Contact GirlsBikeClub@westtownbikes.org with any questions.
Heels on Wheels is a benefit for Girl’s Bike Club to attend the Youth Bike Summit in New York City in 2014. The Youth Bike Summit promotes the capacity of youth to lead while using the bicycle as a catalyst for positive social change. As the only female-focused youth bike program in the U.S, Girl’s Bike Club (GBC) understands the importance of our participation and leadership in such an impactful movement. We believe when youth, particularly females, ride bikes, our communities are healthier are more sustainable.
