Description

Organized 11 years ago by the venerable John Greenfield, this beloved annual ride takes an moderate pace for a 100 mile route around the edge of our beautiful city.

An excellent first "Century" ride with it's many CTA bail-out options for peace of mind, this ride is perfect for those who think they might, but aren't sure yet that they can handle a full 100 miles in a day.  (Spoiler Alert--Turns out, you totally can!)

John is stepping aside this year to work on other rides, so some of us that love this ride are keeping the tradition alive with a few minor alterations.

Start getting excited, start getting your friends excited, and stay tuned here for emerging details!

Meet-up time--8:00 am, y'all!

I'll probably be meeting up at Superdawg for dinner.

Found out about this ride from reading The Derailleur. Me and a work buddy are coming and looking forward to David's oatmeal cookies!

I'll assume package stores are already mapped.

THIS JUST IN!!!

Our dude with Friends of Pullman just reached me with a scheme whereby our route becomes an historical re-enactment going through a factory and ending at the brewery.  Bad. Ass.

Andrew, that is a awesome map!.

One comment: Midway Airport is a few block west of the route. You can ride down 59th street (?) and hop the orange line.

Welcome, Sarah!

Bring snacks--carbs mostly--eat them before you start to feel too hungry.  Bring enough to share a little bit with someone who forgot and is feeling woozy.

Bring plenty of water--there are stretches of the route with very little in the way of drinking fountains.

Check your bike over beforehand--tires topped off, cables good, wheels trued.

Other than that, it's all gravy!

I'm looking forward to doing this ride for the first time this year - what do I need to know?

I've plotted all the RTA/Metra stops nearest the route.  Also vege/vegan restaurants.  The map's getting really dense.
