Description

Organized 11 years ago by the venerable John Greenfield, this beloved annual ride takes an moderate pace for a 100 mile route around the edge of our beautiful city.

An excellent first "Century" ride with it's many CTA bail-out options for peace of mind, this ride is perfect for those who think they might, but aren't sure yet that they can handle a full 100 miles in a day.  (Spoiler Alert--Turns out, you totally can!)

John is stepping aside this year to work on other rides, so some of us that love this ride are keeping the tradition alive with a few minor alterations.

Start getting excited, start getting your friends excited, and stay tuned here for emerging details!

Meet-up time--8:00 am, y'all!

What an amazingly social and friendly group of bikers! Thanks again David for organizing an urban adventure! And your homemade cookies were fabulous (would you be willing the share the recipe? though I probably dont really want to know what is them (really? quail eggs? hmm).  Thanks for to the guy (name?) who lubed by sqeeky bike at the Calument fishery. Same with the guy who shared his Salmon... yummy!!  The Angus brewery was amazingly! Will pick hops for FREE beer anytime!!  Not sure what happend on the west side porta potty where our group got spilt up... I had to wait to SuperDawg to use it!! But I think that's where the party continued. Kelli (friend me if you are reading this)... YOU and your friend must come to TBOX 2012 (festaparties.com)... It wont disappoint... a worthwhile trip to wrigleyville.. 9am-?? walking pub crawl with costumes! Come! Come! I'm looking forward to more rides!!

Some 57 riders came. Sorry about the poor accuracy (we are plotted in water several times), thanx apparently to bugs Apple introduced in the recent iOS6 update.

Thank You David and all of the others for putting this ride together, and keeping the herd together. Marybeth and I had a great time on the ride and meeting all of you.  We could not have asked for a better day.  The highlights for us were the Velodrome, hanging with the people of Pullman and crashing the block party. Next year we are doing the entire ride, hope to see everyone around the city.  Thanks again.

For everyone wondering what we were mysteriously talking about at Wolf Lake...

And Niall - that's why I had to bail, too. Next year: a dogsitter!

This was my first group ride, and it was a lot of fun. I hope the lady who crashed is okay.

David - thanks for the crash course in Chicago I wouldn't have managed on my own. The highlights for me were the Pullman tour, being treated like a rockstar at Argus, opening up and letting it rip on that stretch of highway and of course the rad people I met. I hated to bail out early, but my dog was happy to see me come home.

Wow, it actually worked!  We kinda thought we could pull it off, but man oh man did we get some great help and a great bunch of riders. I know there were a bunch of people who'd never done a ride that long before and there were even a couple of people that'd never done a group ride before of any sort.  That's pretty cool, I think.

The folks at Chicago Velo Campus were so great--check out their schedule of events, there're three big Saturdays of racing before their season ends and a day spent bbq'ing with beers in their infield while bikes whiz up and down the walls like spiderman just can't be beat.

Our new best friends at Friends of Pullman and Argus Brewery were incredibly hospitable.  They're throwing a big Octoberfest this coming weekend and somebody needs to organize a ride down there.  Hell, we need to organize a bunch of rides down to hang out with those folks!

Pretty great to have John Greenfield himself along with us for the ride from Superdawg to the lake.  The main thing we all wanted from this ride is to make it into an enduring tradition.  Here's to riding many more rings around the town!

Dubi, Kevin Chuck and I had a great time getting this all together, but it all really came off as well as it did because of the cooperative action of the riders helping each other out with mechanicals, injuries, food and knowledge of the local terrain.  Especially fantastic and absolutely essential help provided by Oboi and Vince on Sweep Team making sure that nobody got left behind.

Anyways, thank YOU all!  I had a really great time, and it's because of you.

Next up--the Frozen Snot Century in February or March!
