This is the first of the four planning rides for the Hyde Park Bike Tour. This is being organized by Big Shoulders Realty, the Active Transportation Alliance and the Friends of the Major Taylor Trail.
There have been numerous solo rides to assemble the list of potential stops. The current list has 194 potential sites which need to be whittled down to a reasonable amount of stops with less than 18 miles total on the bike. A challenge since we also have to avoid a wide perimeter around Obama's house.
The area of Hyde Park is dense with rich architectural examples. This first public planning ride focuses on the University and the southern/western part of Hyde Park.
Part two focuses on the lakefroint, Jackson Park and the north section of Hyde Park.
Both parts one and two deal with photographic and audio documentation of all potential sites. Road hazards are noted. Ideals involve the use of recomended bike routes, the visiting of all national and regional landmarks, and the visit to bike friendly vistas not accessible by car.
Part three deals with point of entry, preliminary route ideas, and elimination rounds, as well as spot photography or different angles, etc.
Part four is the pre-ride. Final changes will be made to map routes and the ride will be set
