Description

Join the Kidical Mass for a slow, easy-going, fun, group ride focused on kids (all ages) and families that will tour Hyde Park and surrounding neighborhoods.

Gather in (or in front of) the playlot of Harold Washington Park between 10:30 and 11 for an 11 am departure.

Ride Guidelines
Please wear helmets and ride safely.
Rides are typically 3-4 miles at a 5-6 mph pace, roughly 1 hour with stops.
Rides are suitable for children who have progressed beyond training wheels.
Younger children are welcome on trail-a-bikes, child trailers and child seats of their parent's bike.
Festive dress and decorations encouraged.
It is expected that all kids bring a parent or guardian with a bike.

On the July Ride, we will check out the new 55th street protected bike lane, and end at a playground with some kind of water feature. A more detailed route will be posted closer to the event.

We have a route for the Sunday Hyde Park ride!
It's a bit circuitous, but should be fun. We'll go south along the lake from Harold Washington Park, turn left on 56th to go under the viaduct, then south to 57th, west on 57th to Dorchester, south on Dorchester to 58th, enter the Quad (and rest there briefly if we need it) then continue north on University and campus paths to 55th, turn east on to the new protected bike lane, and continue there until Kimbark, when we turn south again to 56th, and enter Bixler from the north.

Here's the google maps version: http://goo.gl/maps/sCex

Highlights of the ride include: Lab School, Robie House, U Chicago campus, 55th street protected bike lane, Ray School, Bixler Play lot.

Hope to see you there!

If you're coming from points north, the start of the ride is easily accessible from the Lakefront path, or by Metra, or via the #6 bus from downtown.
