Galena Gallop 200K
125.1 miles, 7,142 feet of climbing
Audax Club Parisien Certified
start time 07:00
Ridewithgps link: here.
This is a “meet in the middle” with Mike Fox and the Quad City Randonneurs and our meeting point is the town of Galena, Illinois.
Because a Richland Center start would be much farther than 200K, we’re going to start our ride in a town that has served as a midpoint for a number of our brevets – Fennimore, Wisconsin. Our ride will start and finish at Marsden Park which is just a block off of WI-18 in Fennimore. We’ll start promptly at 7:00 and ride down to Galena where we’ll meet the QC Randos at the Galena Brewing Company for lunch. If you decide you want a different venue and/or want to just turn around at the mid-point and head back you’re free to use any of the many establishments at Galena as the control but you shouldn’t! This should be a fun, sociable event with the opportunity to meet randonneurs from another area that you might not otherwise see.
This is a hilly route! More than 7K feet of climbing in 200K but it’s the end of the season and we’re all in the best shape of the year!
For those who want to stay overnight close to the start, the Fenway House in Fennimore (608-822-3782) is only a few blocks from Marsden park. A second option is the AmericInn in nearby Boscobel (608-375-8000). This is only 11 miles from Fennimore on US-61 so you can get to the ride start quickly and easily.
Please advance register for the ride in Driftless Randonneur website and plan to arrive at the start in Fennimore no later than 30 minutes before the ride start.
Driftless Randonneurs is based out of beautiful Western Wisconsin, where some of the best riding in the country is based. SW Wisconsin has plenty of hills and is characterized by many hills and valleys over low traffic roads. The Regional Brevet Administrator (RBA) for this region is Greg Smith.
The Driftless Randonneurs ride schedule for 2019 features some old favorites and some new routes and formats with the emphasis on getting qualified and prepared for Paris-Brest-Paris (PBP).
