Start the new year off on the right pedal with this unofficial Chicago Cycling Club New Year’s Day ride. Neither snow nor sleet nor ice nor hangovers will prevent an intrepid group of cyclists from riding on the first day of 2021. Embark on a 21-mile cycling odyssey that includes the obligatory brunch/lunch stop at a restaurant (Eris Brewery & Cider House) in a great Chicago neighborhood (Old Irving Park).

In accordance with pandemic guidelines from the Mayor, the Governor, and the CDC, this ride is limited to 10 people, first come, first served, and social distancing and face coverings are strongly recommended.

Meet between 10 and 10:30 at Intelligentsia Broadway to warm up and caffeinate. We will return to this area for those who want to end there. The Red and Brown Lines at Belmont and the 36 Broadway and Divvy at Broadway & Barry are just minutes away. So easy to get to!

The scenic route -- though Caldwell Woods -- from Intelligentsia to Eris is 16 miles. If you want to just meet us for lunch, we will arrive at 4240 W Irving Park Rd around noon.

Named for the most notorious instigator of ancient Greek mythology, women-owned and -operated Eris opened in February 2018, claiming as its home a MCMX Masonic Temple that had most recently served as a Korean Presbyterian church. Their menu aims to satisfy meat lovers, vegans, vegetarians, pescetarians, and those who observe gluten free diets. They have outdoor patio seating with infrared and propane heaters to keep us warm (but, alas, no rain protection to keep us dry). Their tables have been set up well over 6 feet apart for our safety. They recommend sunglasses and that we bundle up!

So snuggle up in your winter riding gear and come on out. Please bring a lock, money for lunch, rain gear, extra layers for when you're not riding, and a helmet.
