Description

6th Annual Three Floyds Brewpub Ride

10:00 AM Saturday, January 15th, 2009

Daley Plaza or Promontory Point (Lakefront in Hyde Park)

We shall depart Daley Plaza at 10 AM, meeting up with the Promontory Point group at 10:30 AM, and continue to the Three Floyds Brewpub in Munster, Indiana, arriving around 1 PM. We will depart the brewpub around 4 PM. The total distance round trip is approximately 65 miles.

Please RSVP if attending.

The inaugural Three Floyd’s ride was conceived and organized by Mark Sinclair. As many of you know, Mark died in 2006, at age 34, a few days after suffering a brain aneurysm. It was Mark’s hope that this would become an annual event.

Thanks,

T.C.

Here’s a link to Mark’s photos, map and write up of the first year’s ride.

The fine print:

There will be no support vehicle on this ride and each rider is responsible for themselves. The pace will be 12-14 mph with a short break at Wolf Lake.

Mid January weather may likely be extreme, but this ride will proceed regardless of wet, windy and/or freezing weather. Please be prepared for the cold as well as flats/mechanical problems.

Checklist:
Growler
Snacks
Lights
Lock
Pump, tube, tools
Extra layers of clothing (more than you expect to use)
Money

I organize a regular Saturday training ride from Promontory Point leaving at 10:00 am.  I have pushed back our start time so that we can join you.  At this point in the year, I may be the only member joining.  On future Saturdays, feel free to join our ride.

Re: "Growler" on the checklist.

The last time i was at three floyds they wouldn't fill up a growler that I returned. They did, however, suggest it might make a good bong. So, save some weight and leave the growler at home. Or, has anyone else had any luck?

Somebody on the chainlink apparently has an "in" with Crain's. The Three Floyd's Ride is in the 10 things to do this weekend column:

PEDAL. Sixty-five miles for a beer might sound like a lot, but that's the deal behind the sixth annual THREE FLOYDS BREWPUB RIDE. A crew of cyclists starts at Daley Plaza, heads to Promontory Point in Hyde Park, and then continue to Floyds Brewpub in Muster, Ind. After having a brew (or two) and lunch and warming up, they'll turn around and come home. The expecting pedaling pace is 12 – 14 mph. Sign up on the website and dress warm. Jan. 15, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. 118 N. Clark St., www.thechainlink.org/....

Anyone else interested in moving on to Rollerderby after this ride?  Perhaps metra-ing back?

I would like to suggest bringing a pair of slippers or other comfy shoes for wearing at the bar. cold cycling shoes or wet boots are not fun to hang out in.

No rules against, depending on the weather there may be more than just you on the train.

"Can I use money for layers? . . ."

It's cheaper than Smart Wool...
