Description

6th Annual Three Floyds Brewpub Ride

10:00 AM Saturday, January 15th, 2009

Daley Plaza or Promontory Point (Lakefront in Hyde Park)

We shall depart Daley Plaza at 10 AM, meeting up with the Promontory Point group at 10:30 AM, and continue to the Three Floyds Brewpub in Munster, Indiana, arriving around 1 PM. We will depart the brewpub around 4 PM. The total distance round trip is approximately 65 miles.

Please RSVP if attending.

The inaugural Three Floyd’s ride was conceived and organized by Mark Sinclair. As many of you know, Mark died in 2006, at age 34, a few days after suffering a brain aneurysm. It was Mark’s hope that this would become an annual event.

Thanks,

T.C.

Here’s a link to Mark’s photos, map and write up of the first year’s ride.

The fine print:

There will be no support vehicle on this ride and each rider is responsible for themselves. The pace will be 12-14 mph with a short break at Wolf Lake.

Mid January weather may likely be extreme, but this ride will proceed regardless of wet, windy and/or freezing weather. Please be prepared for the cold as well as flats/mechanical problems.

Checklist:
Growler
Snacks
Lights
Lock
Pump, tube, tools
Extra layers of clothing (more than you expect to use)

I figured a couple of shots from the actual destination were required... There were many more bikes than shown here. It was a very well-attended arctic adventure!

A couple of photos from the 2011 ride. Good times. Cold and a bit windy, but lots of fun. A belated thanks to the organizers/leaders for putting this together and getting us all there.

I had a great time. You are all so cool and friendly. Nice pace, waited to get in but once inside the warmth could not be beat. Really a fun ride.

We will be riding on the clearest pavement available.  I would recommend the faster bike.

This being my first 3F ride, I'm wondering what kind of conditions to expect for the route.  My winter bike with fenders and studded tires is what I normally ride, but the length of the route tempts me to take my faster bike with slick tires.  Any thoughts?
