There's been a ride to the Three Floyds brewpub in Munster, IN, every January since 2006. The beer is great ("there are few places more exciting from a beer lover's perspective", says the NY Times), and they take their cuisine as seriously as they do their beer.
Neither snow nor rain nor sleet nor gloom of night stays these couriers (and other riders) from the swift completion of their appointed rounds. We depart Daley Plaza at 9:00 AM and collect riders at Promontory Point at 9:45 AM. I like to get there before they open at noon; it's the fourth-best brewery in the world, so sometimes there's a line. After we complete our "rounds", we may be less swift, so there are different return options: ride to Flossmoor Station and take the Metra (40 miles), ride to 100th or 93rd and take the J14 or the Metra (45), ride to 71st and take the J14 (50), and of course ride all the way (60).
The fine print:
There is no support vehicle. You are responsible for yourself. The pace is 12-15 mph with a short break at 7-Eleven. January weather can be extreme. Be prepared for cold as well as flats/mechanical problems.
Checklist:
▢ Water and snacks to have en route
▢ Lights
▢ Lock
▢ Pump, tube, tools
▢ Extra layers of clothing (more than you expect to need)
▢ Money
▢ Government-issued ID
▢ Panniers for beer you can't get in Chicago
Online resources: Google map, cue sheet, Flossmoor Metra train schedule, 93rd St Metra train schedule, Jeffrey Jump (J14) bus schedule, Metra rules, CTA guide, and, to save a minute at the start, the nifty online CCC waiver.
The inaugural Three Floyds ride was conceived and organized by Mark Sinclair and took place on January 14, 2006. As many of you know, Mark died on April 14 of that year, at age 34, a few days after suffering a brain aneurysm. It was Mark's hope that it would become an annual event.
PS: This ride doubles as the First Step of the 2015 Twelve Steps Challenge. Ride to Three Floyds 12 months in a row and win a nifty prize!

great, see you there!
I will be joining you at Promontory Point on a Green Trek 4500 Mtn Bike.
new guest drafts to sample:
Cold pressed Costa Rican City Roast from Bean Cycle blended with sour Oscar.
Brewed with barley, wheat and rice and fermented at high temperatures with a special blend of four different yeast strains, Saison is fruity and slightly tart, with a dry finish that makes it that rarest of treats–a beer as refreshing as it is complex.
Pungent, floral and intense, this represents America’s best, in every relaxing sip. This powerful brew features full, juicy hop character, while expressing notes of mango, pineapple and the pleasantly sharp, biting edges of tart citrus fruit.
S’muttonator is a tasty mixture of German ingredients and good ol’ fashioned New England tenaciousness. Our brewers take 30 hours to brew a single batch of this traditional Double Bock. Take your time and enjoy its rich, malty, and deceptively smooth flavor.
