I'm such a novice, but I thought it worth bringing up. Has everyone heard the rumor about the Thompson Center being a place for the fencing of stolen bikes and parts?

I just had my bike stolen a week ago, worst feeling ever. The cops/bike stores pretty much have the "that really sucks" attitude and give the slow head shake.

Surprisingly, many stolen bikes end up being brought to bike shops for service or an "estimate". Believe me, bike shop personnel don't like thieves any more than you do. If your bike has been stolen, file a police report, but also contact your local bike shop, and other bike shops throughout the city (a link to a database of shops is under "biking resources" on this site), with a description and serial number of your bike. At my own shop, we have reunited quite a few owners with their bikes. It's worth a try.
