I just frantically scoured Craigslist until I saw properties that met my criteria (location, type of residence, size, etc.), then had my friends and family check out the candidates until one really stood out. I didn't even see my house before I moved in. But if your friend needs advice as to what part of town to live in (or to NOT live in!), I'd be more than willing to help!
