What brings you to The Chainlink?
Friends recommended it but they are no longer on it.
About me:
I've been in Chicago for 3 years (moved here for graduate school.) And like to bike up the DesPlaines River Trail, down the South Lakeshore path, up the trail that leads from Park Ridge to the Botanic Gardens, and around in LaBagh Woods. In Philadelphia (where I lived before) I loved mountain biking around the narrow hillside trails in the Wissahickon Valley & haven't yet found it's cognate in terms of verticality, canopy-cover, and accessibility from the city. I like polytonal/polyrhythmic music, watching leaves move in the wind, being surrounded by wild plantlife, incorporating Asian philosophical traditions in mental and physical health practices, left-leaning politics/economics, humor, and the history of work/wealth/leisure. I work in schools and libraries.
My first bike:
No idea. My first great bike was a 1980 Trek racing bike in ketchup 'n' mustard colors with suntour & shimano parts and a corncob gearset that I wore through a lot as a late commuter trying to go too fast.

It got totaled the first month I was here on Armitage but now I have a Gary Fisher mountain bike and a GT hybrid commuter that I've souped up with bulletproof tires and a basket
