I saw a beautiful silver coloured camping bike in the Mission District of San Francisco last Wednesday, going around a corner. Just before it disappeared I noticed that the rear rack was attached to a braze-on in the middle (or a little lower) of the seat stay, and I realized the bike was custom, so I hustled around the corner to check it out. It was Andrew McComb on his cross country 650B Camping bike. What a beauty! Curved chainstays, rear canti brake on the front side of the seat stays, very low curve to the low-trail fork (which Andrew made his own mandrel for), all custom racks, and as is befitting a bike from Chi-town, filet brazed joins. A very pleasant and modest man, I hope that he will find a niche in the bicycle world where his skill can be appreciated. Perhaps he should see if Jan Heine would review his camping bike...
