Illinois State Beach Park - Zion, Illinois. About a 4 - 4 1/2 hour trip if you take it semi-slow.

My boyfriend and I, so only two of us. I think one of the best parts of the trip was the tornado that starting coming in- during our trip back from Pleasant Prairie/Racine, but we managed to make it back to camp, huddle up in our sleeping bags and hope the trees didn't fall in on us.  They didn't, and we had great tales to tell afterward. Technically, it was a one way trip of about 40-50 miles, but we made a lot of side trips from our base camp-including heading to Wisconsin. We plan on going back hopefully a few more times this year. Maybe we should post our next trip on here and see who may want to go with us?

We were heading up to Zion (Illinois Beach State Park) to set a base camp there, then head up to Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin...the day we headed out, it poured down heavy rain for about 10 hours straight (hence the giant yellow hefty bag tarps on our gear). It was our first time bicycle camping, and we loved it (even the getting lost in the pitch dark with a monsoon going on around us lol...we were totally unprepared, overpacked, and soaking wet. It was the best vacation, though!
