Terrific graph but somewhat misleading if the point is that Chicago is way behind places like Portland.  Chicago and NY are far more comparable to one another in size, population density, types of street traffic, and available public transit (although NYC wins by a long shot on the latter). WDC, SF, Minneapolis and Portland are likewise more comparable with one another, but are apples and oranges to CHI/NYC. That said, I'm impressed that we outstrip NYC by 2x, although that again probably has a lot to do with scale.  Could we do better? Yes. Especially in the realm of signage, protected bike lanes and motorist/cyclist/pedestrian education. But we are improving.
