Understandable. Also, I just made my way through the thread about this... :)

I removed all parts but the headset cones, which they did for a smaller fee than what is on their site. There was a small amount of powder in the bottom bracket shell and down tube areas but not enough to keep me from successfully reinstallng the parts. The masking could have been a little better but for a $100 I'm not complaining. The other person (in Bridgeport?) I asked wanted over $200. Maybe do your own masking after removing parts? Also, some steel wool would remove any powder in the threads while not harming them.

I'll add some more pics in a few weeks.

Awesome, that sounds like pretty good news. You didn't have issues with them not facing the headtube or chasing the bottom bracket? Or not masking various threads? The mechanic said they'd do all that, but I'm making kind of a snap decision so am trying to ward off buyers paranoia before I commit, and lack of internet reviews (as iffy as they can be) is making me mildly hesitant! Good to hear about a good experience, though--would love to see pictures of the finished piece whenever she's done!

Hey, it was originally black with silver on the head tube. I haven't actually ridden the frame so am unsure on the durability, still in the building stage (basically is it an art piece at this point, probably finish it up in the spring for summer rides). But it seems pretty durable and the price was very reasonable considering any powder coated frame will get scratched up over time. (And they are pretty cool people, for what it is worth.)

For the decals, I'd give myself a B+ on the application. Always "measure twice and cut once", I only measured once :) I got them on eBay from Velocals. Also, FYI, be careful when you remove the head badge as it is easy to bend.

I'm scouring the internet looking for a not-outrageous way to powder coat my '87 Trek Elance. I'm not sure what color yours was, but mine's the red-to-black fade, and I'd really rather it be just red. How's your paint holding up after a few months? Would you recommend Heritage? And, on a side note--did you re-buy and re-apply your decals yourself?

Thanks!

Martha
