these cats riding around like nut jobs especially down Damen just flying through the light at Fullerton gettig stuck in the middle of the road when they realize they gotta wait like everyone or get plowed into. It's funny people trying to act all hot azzz. Don't worry, cause I will scrape you up and make sure to get you to the Hospital or funeral in record time. Often too, I just an such an insecure reaction from hipsters and some other Ego inflated fool when they see I can outpace them on my 65lb tallbike not wearing gloves or much of a coat cause I am well adjusted to the cold now. Or it could be they just found out I am hooked up with their girlfriend who is 20 years younger and still don't really have a real job except to post this stuff during the day. Also who are these fools who take that curve on Logan Ave just West of Western. I mean there is a safe sidewalk section, why would anyone chance that blindspot especially on a cold day when everyones windows are covered in dirt. No amount of flashing lights are gonna save you from someone coming up behind you around that 40 meter curve. Get ready for a second ghost bike, I will donate the next one for whoever is gonna bite the concrete around that particular section.…
of the star and we do some kind of spell or something.
Andrew Bedno said:Neat Davo! That totally rocks, and is way funny. Northside CM would do a route like that for sure. I'd give it a whirl, but you plan to hold off? And no, I don't think there's any secret map planned. In the other thread on October I suggested Comedy Central solidarity (The Mass to Resore Sanity/Preserve Fear), and linked to prior Halloween maps. The one from 1999 especially is a beauty. (map makers make sure you've read this)Occurs to me, that Day of the Dead thing in Pilsen H posted (free, 2229 S Halsted) might be a good destination, has something Ghost Bike themed?

e only candidate willing to recognize and cite studies that show that more than half of our city budget is just plain thrown away on ghost employees, do-nothing patronage jobs, and dirty insider contracts. Were that not the case we wouldn't be puzzling over how to pay for the CTA or stoically accepting that the city has no more money for bike racks.

Ok...Patty is next on my list. She has some mentioning of bicycling on her website. But I didn't get a good feeling for her in the debate that I saw. We'll see. Thanks.

ull their show, pull their license.

I think this is an overreaction. I suspect few of us actually heard what was said. I did not. As mentioned, the podcast deletes it and that is probably a good thing. I don't know the context. I don't know if its complete neanderthal- kill the cyclists, or simply stupid overreaction to an event on the road generalizing a desire to hurt us from the actions of a particular party he encountered. I rarely listen to the show but find that Waddle and Giancreco are usually more mature than many others in the radiosphere. I would love to hear what actually transpired. Either way, the thread here is correct- we should let them know this is not just foolish but dangerous talk. However, its sports radio. It is what it is and successful hosts say challenging, and often stupid things. That's their job. I think sending them informatiton on a particular ghost bike where a poor sould was killed by being doored may open even the most reactionary person's eyes. Robert took the teaching moment and I applaud him.

still horrible even tho the alderman vowed to fix it.
Dozens of Tyler Fabeck's friends and family gathered last night to mark one year since his death. Twenty-two year old Tyler was traveling on his bicycle when he was killed by a car at the Logan and Western intersection on April 20, 2008.
At the event, Ald. Flores announced that a corner of the intersection will be dedicated to Tyler. The alderman also made it clear that he is committed to making changes to the intersection so that it is safer for all road users. Flores has made requests to the city about the intersection, and has not been pleased with the response.
The event first gathered amig rain and hail in the green space at Logan and Campbell, just west of the intersection where Tyler was fatally struck. Tyler's dad, Danny Fabeck, greeted attendees and told stories about Tyler: the time he cut his dreadlocks and how much he loved the rain. Alderman Flores and Rob Sadowsky, Active Trans executive director, each spoke about how to improve the intersection and why the improvements are so important. "Don't say that we can't fix Western Avenue. Don't say that there's nothing we can do about Logan Boulevard. We can make the changes and we have to," said Rob.…
in and turn it around in a few minutes. i let them know that it wasnt necessary, that they could fit me in whenever. i picked up my other bike from another shop where i was having my bottom bracket replaced and ghost-rode it there so i could get back home.
they called me the next day. bike was ready for pick up. they comped me new pads. apparently, the pads i installed where not compatible with my rims. who woulda thunk? they also tried refunding me the original service charge. but i refused that refund. they ultimately fixed everything, took care of the service i originally paid for, and i believed that $20 was theirs. i was willing to pay for the pads as well, but they refused that.
upon leaving, i stopped at the cash registers and asked for the manager. he came down and i thanked him for everything. they took care of the issue.
Thanks You, REI!
no squeak!

f Ogden.
At Western you jog north a 1/4 block (there is a light to help with this turn) to continue west on Taylor to Campbell. Left (S) on Campbell, cross Roosevelt (this is usually a fairly sleepy part of Roosevelt-- not hard to get across). Right on Ogden and about 1 1/2 blocks SW on the inner boulevard to Rockwell S. Rockwell will take you right into the parking lot entrance.
The little piece of Ogden takes you under a viaduct where the pavement is smooth, and does pass Hector's ghost bike. I did this late last night (from Taylor and Oakley west) just to be sure it worked.
If you do think you'd rather come from the south via LFP and 18th let me know and I'll do some tweaking on what the others have suggested to eliminate the rough underpasses.

ver swerved into the bike lane and struck him. He passed away in hospital shortly afterwards.
James was a transplant from Melbourne, Australia who moved to Chicago last year to work with Groupon. He was an exceptionally bright, witty and talented young man, who's academic accomplishments were only surpassed by his personal ones. He'll be sorely missed.

I write this post not as a plea for charity or sympathy, but as a timely reminder for all of us to be safe on the roads. No matter how experienced and capable you may be, there is no way to control the other drivers and riders around you. As well as being a wonderful person, James was a very athletic, very capable rider and out of strict principle always obeyed the road rules.
Please be alert and stay safe.
