An organization called StartOut contacted The Chainlink about helping to spread the word about a screening of the film Miss Representation on May 8th at the Music Box Theatre. The event will raise awareness and funds for StartOut's Lesbian Entrepreneurship Mentoring Program. StartOut is an organization dedicated to fostering and supporting entrepreneurs in the LGBT community.
We would like to combine this with a bike focused event. Maybe by having a group get together and bike to the screening and/or bike somewhere for drinks afterwards. Is anyone interesting in helping to coordinate something in conjunction with the screening of Miss Representation? This is pretty short notice, but we wanted to try to spread the word.
Let us know if you have questions or if you’d like to rally the troops!
Wish I could have made it. It sounds like it was a great ride. I'm looking forward to the Windy City Cycling Club's Delavan, Madison and Saugatuck rides this season.
I see we don't use The Chainlink's group very often, but for those who have joined this group but aren't WCCC members, I'll let you know that ten of us had a hell of a good time in the Austin, TX area last week, enjoying wonderful weather, beautiful waterfalls, spring flowers and unique rock formations, LBJ's ranch including his Air Force One plane, and the quirky place that is Austin - including Lance's bike shop, Mellow Johnny's.
Ross from Windy City Times would like to do a story on the LGBT cycling community. He can be reached at Rossco814 at aol.com.

Windy City Cycle Club’s Kick-Off Party is this Saturday!
Saturday, April 9
6:00 PM until 9:00 PM
Glenwood Bar, 6962 North Glenwood Avenue, Chicago, IL.
Not only do I hope to see you at the Annual Kick-off Party of the Windy City Cycling Club (WCCC) Saturday, but I hope that you will invite other lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and allied cyclists or cyclist-want-a-bees to attend.
Personally invite that hot Frontrunner or Razor, your friend who cycles on her own, your nephew who should know there is more to gay community than bars, the hipster you’ve wondered about or your partner who needs social incentive to get on a bike seat.
WCCC is a primarily gay and lesbian club that encourages fellowship through recreational, road, and off-road bike rides. WCCC also gets involved in bicycle advocacy and cycling education events. The nineteen-year old organization has about 110 members.
The Kick Off Party is free, with snacks and appetizers provided. Ten percent of proceeds from the cash bar are donated to the club. There will be sign-up tables for membership and rides, a raffle, and much more. This is a great place to become acquainted, renew your involvement, check out the new members or hear about upcoming weekly, monthly and multi-day rides.
This season’s schedule is bursting with events!
