Hey Tom - Excellent time, congrats! And sorry about the black eye... I was not liking at all the people that were doing breast stroke. None of them got me though. lol
As for my race, I unfortunately did not finish. Le sigh.
I passed out, oh... About 150 yards from the finish line, so I'm told. Amazingly, a team mate saw me all woozy on my feet, and caught me and laid me down on the ground...! Basically the diagnosis was dehydration/heat exhaustion. Thankfully everything is fine with me - I got 3 bags of saline, an ekg, couple blood tests. Went down around noonish and was out of the hospital about 4. Oy vey!! The things we do for fun... hahaha
Other than that though, I'm 99% sure I would have had my sub 3 hour race. My swim time was about 33:30 and my bike time was about 1:10:30, both of which I was very happy about. I went off at 9:04 and remember going through the run out at 10:50.
Anyways... I will be back to the sport and definitely do it again. I was cursing it all in the ambulance and saying I'd never do it again, but an hour later I was like - I'll do it again. Hell, maybe a Half Ironman next year (that's what it's looking like, I think...).
so how did everybody do? I completed it in 3:13 not my best time but considering the heat this year not my worse either. I witnessed a horrific bike accident and lost my timing chip, all slowed me down and was emotional ji jitsu that I was not prepared for... then can the 90 degree run !
So how did everyone do on that extremely hot, and challenging triathlon, 3:13 time here, not my best, not my worst, I was just glad to complete it. I did sustain a black eye from the swim, it happens...
hope all is well. I am off to New England for week see everyone in 8 days.
Jason your wave is sooner than some I did mine last year around 10amish this year 8:16, yea ! Light swim tonight, 2 1/2 mile run, then done, carb up, hydrate and try to relax...
I JUST got an email from T2/AFC (AIDS Foundation of Chicago) saying that they actually might need some volunteers for Sunday. Here's the link if you're interested, and most importantly... Thank you!!
Hey Tom - I'll certainly need the legs Sunday... Rode my bike in to work yesterday, then just did a half mile swim last night and then messed around in the lake, which was fun. Took the el home with bike... Last thing will be a very short ride and run tomorrow!
Good luck to you Sunday with the new tri bike! I'll just be on my road, so... If you see a red LeMond, wave! (I'll be hanging out at the TriMonster tent waiting for my very late wave of 9:04...)
Well start to rest the legs there Jason, you'll need them Sunday ! Great on the wetsuit and getting into open water, there is no substitute, best of luck, I am eager to try my new tri bike, my plan, get through/survive swim....get on bike and rocket on LSD as fast as crowd allows and then run like Forrest.
