I have posted a Ragbrai Revisited event on the Calendar for Sunday evening, August 14th.
We can look at the Ragbrai documentary that was shot 2 years ago and played in 3 towns last week. I have my photos printed out.
I have the Ragbrai first 29 years coffee table book.
I have an old Ragbrai slide show.
I have spinach lasagna and some beer and you can bring whatever food and/or drink and your pictures to
1113 W. Webster Ave
If the weather is suitable we can grill in the back yard where Elvis and the creative bike rack live. Otherwise, there is my living room in air conditioned comfort.
I know there are other things going on that day, but please come afterwards and we'll compare notes on the hills and the heat and how we conquered them.
RSVP on the calendar page or to 773 248 5499 or kangarookathy@yahoo.com
since you all want to keep Ragbrai alive, I have invited you all to Ragbrai Revisited on Sunday, August 14th at 6PM until...
It is listed as an event still waiting for approval by thechainlink but as soon as it gets posted I hope you will all RSVP.
In the meantime, you could rsvp to kangarookathy@yahoo.com
The venue is 1113 W Webster in Chicago and of course it's pot luck. there is a barbecue and lots of bike racks and I still have some beer left from my last party.
Yo, Mark.
I ride on a team that includes a large number of 30 ride vets, 23+ ride vets, this was my 13th ride and there's a contingent of new addicts as well.
In the fall of 1995 I had a work accident that left me temporarily paralyzed from the waist down for 12 hours and in the hospital for 3 days. After 9 months of intense physical therapy I was able to ride a bike and I finished my first Ragbrai in 1997.
The question is, do you want to get over constantly thinking about this event?
People ask how the ride went, but words alone can not describe the sights, sounds, and emotions you felt. RAGBRAI is truely an awesome event. You get over this constantly thinking about it, right?
The groups I ride with, we call this phenomenon of exiting RAGBRAI and entering back into every day life, "re-entry" and this year, re-entry is really sucking.
My wife and I are with Julie. We just can not get ourselfs to cut off the tags. RAGBRAI was just to much fun and a great time....
Welcome to the world of Ragbrai addiction and withdrawal, Jules. It ain't all that pretty. I deposit my watch on a desk at my friend's house in Des Moines before meeting my team bus so I am watch free for the week.
Cutting the rider band off, stripping the bike bling and then putting away the Monkey bling for another year is traumatic but not as much as putting on my watch. I'll keep the paint from my Ragbrai pedicure for a week or two yet as the job is too good.
My workday was rather demoralizing.
350-some days.
I guess we're kind of famous too. We were walking to the showers in Carroll and Julie (my Julie) spotted this on the back of the merchandise trailer. We were actually wearing the exact same jerseys that day, very weird!
This was our 2nd RAGBRAI, it lost a little of it's charm thanks to the heat and hills, but we made it through without walking a single hill. We both came down with some kind of sinus infection/cold Friday morning which made the last two days challenging. Hopefully we can make it to next year. We both don't plan on honeymooning RAGBRAI :).
