I'll be driving out to Clinton, and have room for two more bikes and their people.

FYI for those asking about RAGBRAI tranportation options, the way we are going this year is to have my parents (they're retired and don't have much to do) drop us off Friday night and pick us up in Clinton on Saturday and we'll take one of the shuttle buses from Clinton to the Start town.  The shuttle prices are between $100-$150 and leave Saturday morning.

Clinton is about a 2 hour drive from Chicago, there are people with cars driving to there, you can inquire on the RAGBRAI forums to hook up with one of them, or you can persuade a family member like I did.

I didn't get a number yet!

Oh yeah, I'm not going this year.  Other things to do and I've ridden this route I don't know how many times now.

Have fun, y'all.

There is a good training opportunity for RAGBRAI this weekend.  I will soon have a house guest from Australia who is here to start cycling Route 66 on Sunday morning.  If you'd like to pedal with him through the city contact me off-list and I'll get back to you with a starting time and place.

Or come meet him and decide at our EARTH HOUR party this Saturday night.  7:30 PM at 1113  W Webster - we turn off the lights at 8:30PM along with people all over the world.  Check out Earth Hour on http://www.worldwildlife.org/sites/earthhour

Registration for weeklong riders wishing to participate in RAGBRAI XL closes this weekend at midnight on Sunday April 1. Those who successfully register as a weeklong rider before the close of registration will enter into a lottery for the 8,500 available spots. Lottery results will be posted on RAGBRAI.com on May 1 and those not selected will receive a full refund.

Please note, to successfully register, you must complete the online registration, which includes signing the electronic waiver and release of liability, and submit payment by April 1. If you choose to submit payment via check or if there is a minor waiver associated with your or your group's registration, the check and/or minor waiver must have a postmark no later than April 2.

RAGBRAI is now accepting electronically signed waivers. Electronic waivers will only be accepted for registrants who are 18 years of age or older at the time their registration is submitted. If you are under the age of 18 at the time of registration, you and your parents/guardians are required to submit a signed RAGBRAI minor waiver (both pages); original copy only, faxed or scanned waivers will not be accepted.

Since the close of registration falls on a weekend, our staff will not be available to answer 11th hour questions. If you have questions or concerns regarding your registration, we encourage you to contact our office by the close of business on Friday (3/30). We can be reached at 1-800-474-3342 or via email at info@ragbrai.com.

If you fail to complete and submit your registration by April 1, you will have the opportunity to purchase day passes, based on availability, on RAGBRAI.com until June 1 at which time any remaining day passes will be sold at RAGBRAI.

Special Offer

The RAGBRAI XL Jersey and RAGBRAI XL Cycling Kits, complete with either RAGBRAI XL shorts or RAGBRAI XL bib shorts, will be available during registration for $50, $100 and $110 respectively. By ordering with registration, you will receive a discount of $10 on the jersey and $20 on the cycling kits off the normal retail price found on our online store and in our trailers during the ride. Your jersey or cycling kit will arrive with your wristband packet in June, so there is no charge for shipping. This offer is only available during the registration process.

Please note that if you need to change the size of the jersey, bibs or shorts that you ordered with your registration we are unable to alter the size chosen after April 1. When you receive your participant packet in June, we will include an exchange form. If at that time you realize you ordered the incorrect size, you will have the option of exchanging by sending the item to our office per the instructions, or exchanging the item for a different size during RAGBRAI.

Private Housing

You must remember that RAGBRAI is a camping ride and private in-home housing should not be expected. This privilege is only available to those who successfully registered by April 1. If you apply to overnight host towns for housing accommodations, enclose $3 to help cover their expenses. The names and wristband numbers of everyone in your group will be required. If you arrive with unregistered campers, your hosts may turn your group away.

Housing applications will appear on the Overnight Town's Web site beginning May 1st. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THE TOWNS PRIOR TO THIS DATE OR IT WILL JEOPARDIZE YOUR ENTRY.

I have just signed up for this year, which will be my first RABRAI.  I would really like to get together and ride with any of you who are doing it this year.  I assume someone probably organizes rides leading up to this, is this group where they are posted?

Comment by Liz on February 7, 2012 at 3:49am

I've gotten to RAGBRAI previosly by renting a car one way to the start and one way from the finish, but that wont work this year due to the lack of rental agencies at the start and finish.  We're probably going to make our way with Cam's family in Iowa who is also doing the ride.

If you ship your bike to and from the ride, its a lot easier to then grab a ride with someone else, since the number of bikes that fit on a car is usually 2 or 3, post up on the ragbria boards for ride shares.
