So I'm new to this group (joined as of today) and will be riding my first RAGBRAI this year. I am planning to go solo, but want to meet some good friends along the way. I am also planning to take AMTRAK ($70) out there on Friday to Omaha, stay overnight there, and hitch a ride on a bus ($30) up to Sioux City on Saturday. I am also planning to ride back to Chicago (route still to be determined) after ending in Dubuque. Just wondering if there is any room in any vans leaving from Chi-town that would be cheaper than what I am planing on doing. Another thing is that I am wondering if anyone is also planning to ride from Dubuque to Chicago in one to two days so as to form our own little group.

Ah come on Dan - you could ride to Madison in two days and join the ride. Now i'm going to suggest folks join me riding Route 66 to St Louis June 12-19 - go to www.moonlightramble.org for details. It starts in Chicago. You can hop on Amtrak to get back. Or share a rental car with Suzy and me because dogs aren't allowed on Amtrak.

check out the GRABAAWR event for June I posted. I am planning to register as soon as I can secure a ride to the start (west of Madison, WI).

If any of you don't want to camp, do you know you can go to the website of each overnight town, download an application for housing and send it with a $3.00 check. I spent last night printing those out. It was much easier than in past years. All the sites were ready with PDF or on-line applications. One town even had payment through PayPal! I have a friend who needs a ride from Chicago to the start of the ride. What was that i heard about "Kelly's Crew?" Would they take a very handy cyclist/frame builder and his little dog?

If you Ragbraiers would like to have a gathering, my living room and back yard are always available. And you will be invited to the dedication of my just ordered artistic bike rack in my back yard when it comes and is installed.

I just got my wristband number as well. My wife has no idea what she's getting herself into.

I wish I could help some people out with a ride that way, but my car will be full of dogs to leave with my parents in Iowa.
