Dressed up for the Ball (RABRAI), but cannot go????!! (WTH???)

Received my I.D. wristband, packed equipment, crashed while training, broke collarbone.

What a bummer!!

Now I'm waiting for a doctors opinion  to determine if I can ride the RAGBRAI after much anticipation and preparation.

WTF?????

I feel your pain. I crashed a few weeks ago and broke my 4th metacarpal while riding. I asked my Dr and he said I shouldn't do the ride. However I still plan on doing Ragbrai.

Good luck on healing.
FYI - I have broken both collarbones (separately) and everyone heals at a different rate.
Research supplementing various sources of calcium and nutrients that aid in calcium absorption.

IMHO - even if you feel like riding (I'm sure you do) riding long days, hills, and the hills would be
pretty tough depending on how far along in the healing you are.

Maybe you could ride every other day ?

This is a fairly flat and low mileage year. You could ride your team's sag vehicle every day and when camp is set, ride your bike against the flow to the last pass-through town beer gardens which is typically the big rider gathering point before the overnight town. This is not an uncommon way to ride Ragbrai. You'd get some mileage in, enjoy the sights and sounds of each day and with a few beers, the ride back to the overnight town would be pain free and quick! You should go anyway.
Are you looking to sell you wristband, and ride? I might be interested in going.
One doctor wanted me to immobilize my left shoulder, but another tells me that my arm will become very stiff due to lack of movement, so I choose not to have it immobilized.

I rode to 24th and Western Ave. in Chicago from Matteson (a round trip of 60 miles) and was only slightly sore from the ride. I've also started taking calcium supplements in order to help with the healing of the fracture.

All I can do at this point is to keep riding carefully and see how I feel.

Thanks for the suggestions and I hope to see some Chainlink members in Iowa.
Marla,
I have 3 daily wristbands (Sunday, Monday and Friday) as I was planning to meet up with some friends and Iowa. If you're still interested, let me know.

The doctor strongly advises against doing the ride so soon after the fracture. Therefore, I'm looking to sale my 3 bands for Sunday, Monday and Friday. If someone want stay the entire week they can purchase daily bands when they get to the RAGBRAI.

If interested, contact me at waymondhsmith@hotmail.com.

Thanks
What happened?  This is an old post.  Just curious.
