I have never tried bike/ camping before. But I do have an offer to put out there. If anyone wants to attend and is worried about the mileage on the bike, I would offer up my jeep liberty as a mule vehicle and then we could keep a nice stock of cold refreshments as well as the heavy gear as well as providing mild sag support.

All this talk of camping is making me nostalgic so I'm sharing a this link to The Joys of Cycling, a site in Northern Ireland. Great bike camping photos and stories from the 1950s!

Can I join this group simply for it's groovy name?

I have two tents; a Kelty and one by EMS. I hate them both. In fact, you'll never see me camping or sleeping in a tent with the exception of Ragbrai and even then, I avoid tenting as much as humanly possible.

Tips on the REI Garage Sale:

Get there early...it is kind of a mad house and people set up outside waiting for it to open.

It's kind of a mad rush once it starts. Many people just grab a handful of sleeping bags or tents to check out. Camping gear is kind of hit or miss in my experience there. One thing to note is that you can't return an item that you buy from the Garage sale.

If you go later in the day, there is often still quite a bit of stuff, particularly in the clothing and shoe department and it's a little less hectic. However you probably won't be able to get a tent, backpack or sleepign bag at that point.

ill def be at the garage sale this time around. also, kellie, you can always rent from rei if you dont want to commit to purchasing equipment.

i also plan on a trip up to the kenosha outlets northface store soon to look for winter coats on sale, and they have a few previous seasons tents on sale usually, too. if anyone feels like taking the drive...

The REI garage sale was a great resource for a bunch of my friends back in the fall. You just have to be an REI member...

And there's one this Sunday!!! I will be there trying to buy a tent and a sleeping bag.

Since some friends and I are going to Illinois Beach, I have looked up the Alchahol thing. There are sites that ban alchahol and some do not. Probably something to ask when you arrive to grab a site.
