FatTireFool...if ya want to do a tent on the cheap, a tent like that if fine (save for maybe ventilation) and just throw a tarp on top of (string it across instead of laying it on top of the tent). its always good to have a tarp handy regardless, and if the skys open up, youre...um...covered.

What about Hollywood Grill? I love their Belgian waffles!

hey Sol, how is the weather proofing on that tent? I'm tired of getting rained on yet can't afford a multi-hundred dollar tent... at the least I would love to make my own and I like that design... thanks :-)

Sleeping bag? If you are crafty, you can make a light weight fleece sleeping bag by buying 2 yards of wide polar fleece at a fabric store for about $3, folding it over length-wise, and sew (or having your dry cleaner sew it for about $5) along the bottom and 3/4 of the way up the side. For slightly colder weather, make a nylon sleeve bag for the exterior. You can use large rubber bands or velcro straps to hold it rolled up for the bike ride.

If anyone is looking for a cheap small tent, check this out:

I have one and have used it many times for bicycle camping. I got mine at sports authority several years ago. It is very small when folded. I combine it with a fleece sleeping bag (was $20 at Target) and a thermorest 3/4 length light pad (also very small), but a cheap foam camping or yoga pad also works.
