If you bought the universal, it may have simmering capability. I have the international, and that doesn't simmer.

It does get tricky to light since you have to heat primer cup. It gets hairy if you put too much gas while doing that.

The Whisperlite is a great stove because it's simple and durable. But it does not have an adjustment for the burner flame. When you get it going, you can work the fuel line valve and get some burner adjustment, but factors like the amount of fuel in the bottle, the pressure in the bottle, the temperature, all become part of the equation.

I'm planning to go to Pinewoods this weekend and am breaking in a new MSR Whisperlite camp stove which I bought at Laacke & Joys.  Has as

anybody on this site had experience with this stove?  Can I get it to simmer as well as boil water?

Bike camping friends, my bike camping ride, GITy Up!, is this weekend. It's a lovely 25mi/day tour of the Illinois Prairie Path and Fox River Trail, starting and ending in Wheaton, IL. The ride is notable in that 1) it offers overnight camping in St. Charles' Delnor Woods, and 2) it encourages everyone to get off their bicycles and go swimming, eat, drink, and generally enjoy themselves.

I've had some support rider cancellations, which leaves me with fewer "on the route" bike helpers than I'd like.

Could you please ask your friends and yourselves if any would like to tour the Illinois Prairie Path and Fox River Valley with us this weekend, either Sat/Sun or both? I will provide dinner, breakfast and s'mores. One must provide one's own camping gear, which I'll carry in the truck.

The job is to simply pedal around a marvelous area, and help GITy Up! riders who need help. I might rope you into helping to set up the food tent, and maybe some loading, unloading of the truck.

It's a small ride, 73 people, who are pretty self sufficient. But I feel better knowing I have more skilled cyclists with eyeballs on the route.

The hours:
Saturday: 11am–6pm; camping/eating/star gazing commences afterward;
Sunday: 7:30am–2pm

If you would please let your ride mates know, I'd really appreciate the help. Please have them contact me.

Hey all, I've got campsite 332 at Illinois Beach State Park reserved this coming Saturday night (July 13). Likely just me (10% chance 2 of my kids will bike up with me). I live in Lake Bluff, so it's a very straight 20 mile ride up. City folk can consider taking Metra UP North up to Lake Bluff to join me on the ride north, and also use it to get home Sunday. My hunch is that more than 2 tents will raise eyebrows -- maybe you know better? Once I arrive, I plan on pitching my tent, and riding north 5 more miles to Northpoint to the restaurant at the north end of the marina for beers and grub. Consider private messaging me if you're interested.
