FYI: For those who like the biking/camping trip, Adventure Cycling has just launched http://www.bikeovernights.org/ to provide "inspiration, resources, and tools for short bicycle tours (1-2 nights)." I'm betting some people in this group could tell them a story or two...

I've posted a map there with various Chicagoland camping locations and have found about 30 potential public camping locations.
