Yes. Elissa works in the Loop and cycles to Oak Park most days.
Hello! This group still meets right? I was wondering if there is also a common ride home time.
Thanks, Bill and Paul! I'll check in before joining you one morning. I already found the OP cycle groups on yahoo and joined those! Looking forward to meeting you and riding with you!!
Rachel - Welcome to Oak Park. Here are some some resources to check out for commuting and riding. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/opacc/ http://dir.groups.yahoo.com/group/westsidecommuters/ http://oakparkcycleclub.org/ http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/lhcyclegrp/ Feel free to email me at billwatson58@yahoo.com if you have any questions on any of these.
Hi Rachel. Yes, it's still happening, but one of our 2 members who works downtown got another job, so Elissa is our sole remaining "worker bee." The rest of us are retired, so if Elissa isn't riding, we might head in another direction. She has been out of town, but is due back next week. She rides most days, weather permitting. The rest of us Mon-Wed-Fri. Tomorrow morning looks like rain. If you have any questions my email is pb227@sbcglobal.net
Is this ride still happening? I just moved here and would like to join in! I am a little nervous about bike commuting from Oak Park alone since I've heard mixed things about safety and am totally unfamiliar with Chicago and the surrounding neighborhoods, so I'm very interested in trying it with company!
Yes, Harrison usually has pretty light traffic, and we don't see all that much in the medical complex, particularly after crossing Ashland. And we cross the Ike (eastbound) at Kostner, then an immediate left, and back to Harrison next to the expressway.
Thanks Paul. I rode to the loop today and then met 3 colleagues and we rode down to 3Floyds in Munster and back. Going down I decided to a route I don't normally take, Harrison, and found it to be great until you get to the medical complex then it gets a bit busy. And I made the mistake of crossing the Ike at Lavernge instead of Kildare.
Bill -- welcome aboard. A few of us rode this morning with temps about 32 degrees. Our main member is Elissa Speizman who commutes to work almost every day. The rest of us ride Mon-Wed-Fri, and return to Oak Park after coffee downtown. As weather permits, we'll keep riding this winter.
