Well that side of the Salt creek bridge is now toast, hoisted up by the big crane and dragged by the other big machine onto the roadway on the west side.

The path is in very bad shape between Salt Creek and New Wilke, but the bridge itself - or, at least, the south side eastbound carriageway and bike path - were replaced ...
The box section holding the outer guardrail came apart in the middle, in the winter months, so it was removed and another guardrail was bolted through what remained of the bike path, what was left was rather narrow!
A few months later, in construction season, they came back and removed that entire side of the bridge and put in a new south side eastbound carriageway and bike path - exactly what they are doing again now - and that was no more than 2-3 years ago, IIRC.
Nothing was done to the north side westbound carriageway at that time, so I assumed that this time around they would only replace this?

Daily Herald "A sidewalk on the opposite side of Golf is also available to those uncomfortable riding in the road." Not from New Wilke until t'other side of Salt Creek there isn't!
What also puzzles me is that the roadway and path on the south side of the bridge were completely replaced 2 or 3 years ago, but the north side roadway wasn't, shortly after the outer bridge span broke!

Just love the way the cycle-path bridge over Salt Creek in Busse Woods forest preserve is closed for two months. Diversion or alternate routes for cyclists & pedestrians? Figure it out for yourselves!

Stadium Ride. My friend Kat and i have a tradition of riding to the Stadium Sports Bar on 83 just south of Dempster every Thursday night for the $2.50 pitchers. It's a decent ride. Nice place. Lemme know if anyone is down. I'll give ya all the info. Peace!
