Not Naked Ride Security

Like the title says, we're not security for the Naked Ride. ;-) The organizers Steven Lane, Andrew Bedno, and Barbra Mann are in charge of the ride now and will make all decisions pertaining to the ride.

Andrew Bedno has asked on many occasions for the contact information of the security team. As it is private I would never give it. If you are so inclined feel free to contact him.

Naked Ride Security Crew: Do me a favor and post here or message me things to improve or things that worked from last June. While the organizing body generally has a problem tying its shoes I was told my deployments and talking points at the beginning were "problematic and lone wolf". I call having having a plan productive but maybe i'm wrong. Post 'em or message please. (That goes for all security crew past and present.)

Hey Security Crew, this is the letter I've sent to the Chicago Police Department. I e-mailed Clearpath@Chicagopolice.org. I usually receive a response. It's good to send a message of thanks because you can bet the folks that don't like us voice their opinions. We should voice our support! CPD did great and we should let them know!

To Chief McCarthy and the Chicago Police Department,

I’d just like to take a moment to thank Deputy Chief Johnson, Commander Roussell, Commander Nagode, Commander Martin, Sgt. Tietz and Officers Lindahl and Jackowiak.

Your time and patience is so appreciated as Security Chief for an event like World Naked Bike Ride. For the Deputy Chief and Commanders I appreciate hearing all your concerns so we can adjust our strategies ahead of time. And giving us the time to talk with you is invaluable.

For Sgt. Tietz (and forgive me, he had two officers with him that I didn’t take the names of) I appreciate their presence on the ride. It made things infinitely smoother for Security on the Rear Guard to know that spectators would think twice about jumping off the sidewalk, or getting touchy, when they see CPD’s finest.

Officers Lindahl and Jackowiak were in an SUV behind the ride and escorted us out of the 12th District. I introduced myself before the ride took off so as to give them a point person if something were to arise.

My last thanks to all of the Officers in Districts 1, 18, 19, 14, and 12. I’m sure they encountered the ride in one form or another and I hope it was with amusement.

All the Security Crew and I want is for our friends to have a safe and fun protest. Those two words don’t normally go together but for an event as rare and highly visible as the World Naked Bike Ride they do. It obviously would not be possible without the Chicago Police Department.

Sincerely,

Gabe Cohen

Wanna guess what Santa David has in his sack?  Then come to Midnight Marauders this Saturday!

While we only put on Naked Ride once a year, getting practice in between yearly rides helps ease your experience on the day of Naked Ride.  Marauders, FBC, and Mass are all perfect opportunities to get practice understanding the dynamics of larger groups of riders.  They're also super fun rides in and of themselves!

And... allright...  Santa David will be bringing the last of the security beers to Marauders this Saturday.  Click Marauders for the Chainlin listing.  Please come, 'cause the final security beers look a bit like this

For those of you who do not check the facespace often...

The ride is massive, so many of you probably did not know that we had bike cops with us for a majority of the ride. When I spoke with them, I got a surprise. They spontaneously complimented the security team and were obviously impressed with our ability to control traffic, manage bystanders, and help ride participants.

We kept a protest involving thousands of people organized and safe. THAT is something to be proud of!

For the meeting I'll be bringing 15 large pizza's, plates and napkins. Liquids are on you guys. Final prep is being done at the rally. If you have the time to buy a vest please do. We have 50. I hope to need ALL of them. Arrival time is 2:00 to 2:30 and we have a lot to go over. See you folks soon.  ;-)

Yup I remember that being the case. It's just that someone might have a false sense of security with so many bikers and the one way in/out nature of the place.
