Okay so above is the map for tonight's "Ring of Fire" ride. Thanks Andrew for all the help!
WE NEED "ROUTE LEADERS!" So if you want to be in the front, be the center of attention and would like to direct traffic please contact me at spencer@uglatto.com or call 1-312-725-6661. You'll get a lamented flyer out of the deal!

If you have a sound bike and want to sync soundtracks you can download the Best Damned Halloween Mixtape Sides A and B, here and here.
The Yes Men! are reported to bring their survival ball to Daley Plaza around 5:30 and play with us until we leave. It's possible they have something clever in store for us because they are supposed to ride off with their ball so I think this silly thing has wheels! Maybe we can convince them to join us on the first leg of the trip.
Alex Wilson of West Town Bikes fame is running a "Momentum Mori" which is a memorial ride for the cyclists who have been killed around the city. Inspired by the Ghost Bikes. Come join us for the procession this Friday, October 30th. They will meet at the Northwest corner of Clark and Randolph at 5:00pm to assemble for the ride. Dress in all white, as glammed up or ghouled out as you would like.

I agree totally. How about some talk or help for the North~Side Critical Mass ride, which is next Friday. We have live Karaoke on Todds trailer. Also wireless mic for passing around. And a couple of group songs. A Halloween contest for best dresed bike. best dressed costume. & best bike & costume (combo) There will be prizes. Might have a bike shop as a sponsor. Check it out on North~Side Critical Mass Group and Calendar.
I hope the weather is good. Last year wasn't so bad. Maybe go by some cemetaries cuz their "Scarey" and or by the clubs that have cover charges so we can show people waiting in line how much fun free can be.
I think that we should hit every cemetary in Chicago .To bad BURR Ridge was ssoo far away. THAT really scares me! !! Also can we take this ride to lower Waker Dr. for maybe 1-3 blocks.That might be cool.Some parks with lagoons,we could ride next to them if they have a trail. Along the river up north is pretty spooky... They have a lot of tree next to them.

Cross-posted from there:

October has long been an especially special mass, with many to most cyclists in costume, the gathering in Daley Plaza enhanced by Chicagoween, "Haunted Plaza" and Midnight Circus performing, and route touching ghost bikes.

I propose FIRE as the theme for the October 30th 2009 Halloween ride for several strong reasons:
* October is "National Fire Prevention Month".
* The Chicago Fire started on October 8th 1871.
* Chicago Fire history provides many points of interest.
* Fire connects with Halloween readily through hell and Satan imagery.
* Daley Plaza features an "eternal flame".
* Chicagoween may have fire performers just before ride time.
* FIRE would COMPLETE THE SET OF ELEMENTS with Earth, Air, Love and Water rides this year!

TODO:
* Review Skate Patrol's existing annual fire themed routes.
* Collect locations of Chicago Fire history points of interest.
* Collect locations of Chicago fire stations.
* Collect locations of ghost bikes.
* Search for existing local fire themed routes on bike map systems.
* Review prior Halloween mass routes: 2008, 2006, 2004, 1999.
* Review existing local fire themed tours.
* Contact local fire performers/tribes/groups.
* Promote to local media.

I hope to NOT develop the route nor art, since there are better at both and either; just facilitating as usual. Now have ghost bikes in KML (GoogleMaps/Earth/other data format), and collected useful links, and talked with many fire/circus peeps.
Next step where I could use help: build KML from fire points of interest (POIs) off some of the above. Later we overlay all and assess.

Andrew, as you know I think the fire idea is fucking great. I think we should name this ride "Burn In Hell, Chicago Critical Mass!" or something like that. I also agree with the other idea posted to swing by as many grave sites as possible. I like that especially if we go with some sort of Hell reference.
we should go by the historical society and water tower since they are buildings that survived the fire
I just heard an add that wrigley field keeps urns behind the ivy wall. I think that makes it a cemetary
We should just do last Halloweens route again. Or the October 99' route. both of them are halfway decent.
Just read an article in the paper today about the positive loitering in uptown on fridays. Maybe we should go through there?
I hate those Uptown Updaters. Some of those people who are participating in the positive loitering are good people. But where it comes from on the organizational end is a fear of minorities and "property value."
what is "Positive loitering"?
that is a phrase I have never heard before.
